Resources: Mayo Clinic and International Association of Infant Massage
As baby grows, they begin to learn their daily routine. Creating a bedtime routine with your child is a great way to spend quality time together, decompress and calm down from the day.
Start with a warm bath or quick wipe down, as infants should not be bathed every day. The warm water in the tub and on the damp cloth not only rinses away the dirt and drool from the day but also relaxes baby's muscles. We recommend using Newborn 2-in-1 Hair & Body Wash for tender and mild washing care.
After drying off from bath time, take the opportunity for a little baby massage before putting pajamas on. The best time to give your child a massage is at least 45 minutes after a feeding, to make sure they don't spit up.
Not only will massage relax baby before bedtime, it also allows a wonderful opportunity for parent and child to bond, develop trust, and create feelings of love, respect and of being valued. For families where bonding has been delayed due to medical complications, adoption, postnatal depression or otherwise, massage is a great way to recreate the elements of bonding and "catch up" so to speak.
Additional benefits of massage for young children include stimulated "circulatory and digestive systems, hormonal and immune systems, coordination and balance, learning and concentration, muscular development and growth, and mind and body awareness." IAIM
How to Massage an Infant
Choose a warm, quiet place and place your child in a comfortable area, such as a blanket on the floor, on the bed or changing table. Lay them on their back so that you can maintain eye contact.
Take off any rings, bracelets or other jewelry that might irritate sensitive skin or be distracting. This is a special time for you and baby to bond and you want them to focus on you.
Use a lotion that is going to hydrate and protect baby's delicate skin. Super Soft Lotion has sweet almond oil and vitamins E and C that moisturize and leave skin sweetly supple. It provides a protective layer of natural antioxidants that help shield skin from environmental elements and is mild enough for daily use, so it can be used on newborns and babies with sensitive skin.
Gently work the lotion into different parts of their body such as their neck, shoulders, upper back, thighs, feet and hands. "Next, place your baby on his or her back and spend one minute each extending and flexing your baby's arms and legs, and then both legs at the same time. Finally, with your baby either on his or her back or stomach, repeat the rubbing motions for another five minutes." Mayo Clinic
Talk to baby or sing a song while you massage. Hearing their parent's voice is soothing and helps them bond with you. If for any reason your child seems upset during this activity, stop and try again later!

"I am a first time momma to my sweet 11 month old boy, so I am super protective about what I give him or put on his body. First of all, I liked that it was dermatologist and pediatrician tested, it gave me peace of mind. After his bath, I got him all dried off and put some of the Noodle & Boo Super Soft Lavender Lotion in my hands. I was immediately in love with the scent. It was so light and fresh and calming. When applying it, it went on silky smooth and soaked into his skin right away leaving soft skin with no oil or residue. We have been using this for over a week now, and I love it! We are both fans of this lotion! This has become part of our bathing routine and will remain so!"
