Julia Roberts’ Children Helped Turn Her Green

Julia Roberts isn’t new to environmental causes — in 2006 Roberts joined the board of directors of Earth Biofuels to serve as a spokesperson for the eco-fuel (the company has since gone bankrupt, but that doesn’t take away from Robert’s intent). She’s gotten political with her efforts to get school buses to switch to biodiesel fuel, encouraging parents to go to their school districts and congressmen to ask for cleaner running school buses because, as she says, “It’s too easy not to fix.”

Having children made Roberts realize how very important it was to take whatever small steps possible to clean up the environmental mess that’s been made. Little by little, by doing tiny things like carrying reusable grocery bags around (and going on Oprah to make her message heard), Roberts is doing her part to leave a cleaner world for her children (her twins, Hazel and Finn, are three, and Henry is just about six months old).

She also renovated her home to make it more eco-friendly. She had hoped the upgrades, including solar panels and recycled bathroom tiles, would be completed by the time her newest little reason for saving the earth came along this summer. I hope that the $20 to $30 million she put into the renovations allowed her to meet that deadline.
