Leonardo DiCaprio Takes Third Place?!? The Top Five Green Celebrities of 2007

Leo DiCaprioLeonardo DiCaprio has been a proponent of eco-consciousness for years — he drives a hybrid car, has plans to establish an eco-hotel off the coast of Belize, and is even the leading name behind the feature-length documentary, The 11th Hour. And he still landed in the Number 3 spot in Green Daily’s recent list of the Top 5 Green Celebs of 2007. What’s a celebrity gotta do to earn the top spot?

Behind Leo in the 5 spot is Ed Begley, Jr., for being green before it was cool and continuing his commitment to the environment. He also currently has a show on HGTV about how to greenify your house.

Next comes Hayden Panettiere for her recent efforts on behalf of marine mammals. For a young star, she’s already shown a lot of courage and brought a huge amount of attention to a worthy cause.

Brad Pitt comes in second for his work in New Orleans — he’s donated his time, brainpower, starpower, and $5 million of his own money to get a green housing project started in the Lower 9th Ward, which was utterly devastated by Hurricane Katrina. He has worked with architects to not only create more eco-friendly homes for families in this area, but also to come up with solutions to flooding there (such as floating homes — brilliant!).

Can you imagine the credentials Number 1 must have? Well, he has won a Nobel Peace Prize, as well as an Emmy and an Oscar. Al Gore took the top spot with his amazing efforts toward bringing environmental problems into the public eye.

I hope these famous faces inspire even more celebrities to take action in the coming year. And kudos to those who made the list this year — it made not only a list, but a huge difference in the world.
